Cheap vs Expensive Air Filters

January 29, 2025

Below are a few things to consider when purchasing a replacement filter

1. Cheap filters won’t last

Cheap filters traditionally won’t last as long as expensive filters will. Cheaper air filters are made of cardboard and paper. These materials cost less to make, but lack durability. They also trap far less dust and/ or pollen before becoming clogged and needing replaced . In addition they need to be replaced more often because of their tendency to wear out due to heat and moisture exposure. This equates to more maintenance and cost.

2. Expensive filters are made of better materials

Expensive air filters are made of better-quality materials than cheap air filters. They are often made of fiberglass, which is a porous material that traps more dust and pollen than cheaper air filters. Fiberglass also resists moisture & heat and does not tear as easily as other materials.

3. Cheap filters provide less air quality

The issue with cheap air filters is that they’re not as effective at removing dust and other allergens  from the air. This is important for homes with multiple people and/or pets.

Which One Is Right for You?.

If you are looking for an air filter that will last and provide the best air quality for your home, then you should consider buying an expensive air filter. Expensive air filters use higher-quality materials, such as plastic or metal.

If you are looking to save some money up front you can go with a cheaper filter. Just be aware over the long haul that it will need to be replaced more often and will not perform as well.
