There are many different factors that can play a role when budgeting for your Home AC replacement.
If you are planning on replacing your air conditioner this summer, please give us a call to schedule a consultation with one of our sales professionals at Alpine Heating & Cooling. This allows both you and our staff to get an idea of what it will cost and what impact the new AC unit can have on your utility bills.
This will allow us to help alleviate another pain point potential customers may face. The sooner we are able to get a plan put in place the sooner we can get you on our installation schedule as over the summer months that can fill up 1-2 months in advance!
Below are a few factors to consider prior to meeting with one of the members of our staff.
Cooling System Type
There are many types of cooling systems available and the price of these units can vary greatly. In southern states heat pumps are a great option because of the lower operating cost they provide. The downside to these types of units however is the increased installation & equipment cost.
Depending on how many rooms are in your home ductless mini-split systems could be more or less expensive than ducted central air. These systems cool individual rooms and small spaces. In these situations, a mini-split system may be the best value option. However, if you are looking to cool an entire home or office with multiple rooms, central air systems are a much better option.
Air Conditioner Size
This is one area we feel we can provide the most value to our customers during the consultation meeting. Most homeowners assume they can cool their home down faster by installing oversized units. However, this is not the case, and in most cases, this causes additional issues.
If a unit is oversized, it will cool a home faster than it is able to dehumidify it, noticeably sacrificing air quality. On the opposite end of the spectrum if an air conditioner is undersized, it will run constantly and underperform resulting in higher temperatures and utility bills that are equally as uncomfortable.
Another thing to consider is the larger the air conditioner, the higher the equipment cost. This is why it’s so crucial to have the correct AC unit size for your home or office!
SEER Rating
Air conditioners lose efficiency with age. Replacing your air conditioner will definitely improve your energy efficiency but a large amount of that efficiency gain has to do with your air conditioner’s seasonal energy efficiency ratio, or SEER rating.
The higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the air conditioner. The trade off however is increased equipment cost. Finding the “happy medium” is what makes our job challenging, fun and provides value to our clients!
One or Both?
The max lifespan on most AC or Heating systems is about 20 years. There are times it makes sense to replace one or both systems in your home. We will provide quotes for the replacement of both systems and each system individually. From there you are able to make a decision that works best for you both today and tomorrow.
If you would like more information or a quote on an AC or Heating replacement in your home, please contact at one of the below methods. We’d be glad to come out for a consolation and give you an expert opinion to allow you to make an informed decision.
